The quality of canvas tents can be only be determined by customer satisfaction. Not a tent company.
Click to read Wilderness Tent testimonials. My customers say the Wilderness is an outstanding canvas tent - and I agree.
Packing Tips - Recommend you read my horse packing tips and also the packing from an Australian packer which is at the end of the packing tips section.
I have hunted and packed in Idaho Wilderness areas since 1979. Currently, I hunt or take pack trips 2 to 3 months annually. I have field tested the pack saddles, tents and used the horse packing equipment items that we sell. I am confident that Pack Saddle Shop pack equipment and pack saddles will provide you the same pleasure and service as these quality products have provided me.
If you are just starting packing and have any questions on a pack saddle, hunting canvas tents, horse packing equipment, quality, what you actually need, call or email me. I will answer any questions you have. I suggest you also read my horse packing tips.
I have labeled 5% of our horse packing equipment items as "Pro" to indicate high quality, workmanship, design or value.
All horse packing equipment I sell is made in the US. I believe in supporting American small businesses. Equally important, USA made pack equipment is superior quality to imported pack gear.

Just recieved my bitterroot pack saddle. Outstanding quality at a reasonable price. Fit was good on my quarter horse. Did not have to adjust the tree. Billy
Took a week pack trip last fall and covered a lot of ground. Pack saddle was great, no issues, no galling, perfect fit. Reed
Used my new pro panniers last fall. I now know why you labeled them Pro. Top quality. will get many years of use out of these quality panniers. Thanks. Joel
Used my riding britchin you recommended. When going down steep hill my saddle stays in place now instead of sliding forward. Thanks. Stephen
Recieved my pro decker. Best pack saddle I have ever seen. Thick leather, thick tree with 3 bolts on each end, brass fittings. This pack saddle will last me for a long time. Gary
Small bitterroot pack saddle fit my small mule perfectly. Great pack saddle. Sam
Wilderness tent package I ordered is awesome. Everything I needed for my hunting camp. The Yukon stove kept us warm all night when it was 10 degrees outside. Thanks for the great gear. Tanner
Awesome stove. I have to tell you I was so impressed with the Wilderness stove. I was able to adjust the air intake on the door to adjust rate of burn for a good warm fire at night. Thanks Charley
PACKING TIPS 5
Always make a packing list before you go on a pack trip. You should keep your list on your computer and update it annually based on each packing trip experience.
I have several packing lists depending on the pack trip I am planning for. An extended 2-3 week pack trip or just a 4-5 day trip when a minimum number of items is required.
The biggest problem I have noticed with beginner packers is the failure to do a preload at home to insure all items will fit in panniers. Finding out at the trail head you don't have enough panniers or pack horses is not a good way to start a pack trip.
Tents are another problem for inexperienced packers. Many people make the mistake of rolling up wall tents and trying to tie them on top of the pack saddle.
A rolled wall tent on a pack saddle is a wreck waiting to happen. It will roll off to one side and then you will have 50-70 lb. imbalance and there goes your saddle.
I recommend folding your wall tent in a rectangle, about 30" x 50". Manty it or put it in a custom tent bag and lay it across the pack saddle. Then secure it with a lash cinch.
