MONTANA WALL TENTS - OUTFITTER TENTS AVAILABLE

Relite: Polyester fabric is very lightweight. Easy to clean, soft and pliable. Longevity and tear strength better than canvas. Mildew, water and fire resistant. Colors available are tan and white.

  • 12 oz or 10 oz Water, Mildew and Fire Treated: Montana Outfitter Tents will only burn if there is a continuous flame against the canvas. Remove the flame source the tent will stop burning.

STANDARD FEATURES ON MONTANA WALL TENTS

  1. Outfitter Tent has a full "Five foot" finished wall height.
  2. Bottom of tent and eaves have 18 ounce truck vinyl with 1/4" rope sewn between 2 layers of doubled stitched canvas. Rope reinforcement provides extra strength at grommets.
  3. 6 layers of canvas-double lock stitched at end wall seams of all outfitter tents.
  4. Reinforced ridge with extra layer of canvas, reinforced at gable ends. Reinforced ridge is a major factor when deciding which tent to purchase if you plan on using lodge pole pine for the ridge. Any burr or branch stub can easily tear a hole in the ridge of the tent. The reinforced ridge, extra layer of canvas, will help prevent tearing a hole in the canvas tent ridge. Insure you totally smooth the surface of a lodge pole before placing it inside your ridge openings.
  5. Stove jack has a weather flap, choice of 4", 5", or 6" opening for pipe. Flap includes velcro and buckles. Outfitter Tent stove jack is located on the left side in the roof as you look at the front of the tent.
  6. 7’6" doors with a trouble-free heavy duty YKK zipper with a storm flap on all Montana wall tents. Side release buckles. YKK zippers on Outfitter tents are self repairing if you have zipper problems. Just completely separate the zipper and re zip the zipper. The zipper problem should be corrected.
  7. Tie door instead of a zipper is an option at no charge. I would not recommend this option as tie doors allow much more wind/cold air in the tent than a zipper door.
  8. The bottom of tent is reinforced with webbing and utilizes grommets.
  9. Top of door reinforced with webbing for extra strength.
  10. Sod cloth on bottom of tent is 12" which provides weather-tight seal against the ground.
  11. On all Outfitter Tent ridge ends there is a 6" ridge hole when using inserting lodge pole. A flap covers ridge holes when using an internal frame.
  12. Relite colors available: White, light green or tan. Customer must specified color when purchasing relite tent. If color is not specified tan relite will be shipped.
  13. Outfitter tents have a very heavy paraffin water, mildew, fire treatment. The paraffin finish makes the Montana wall tent canvas very mildew, water and fire resistant.
  14. A DVD is included that shows tent and frame set up procedures and maintenance for a Montana Canvas Tent.
  15. BE ADVISED SOME TENT COMPANIES NAME THEIR TENTS OUTFITTER TENT IN AN ATTEMPT TO CONVINCE CUSTOMERS TO BUY THEIR TENTS. IF COMPETITOR TENTS ARE NOT LISTED SPECIFICALLY AS MONTANA CANVAS OUTFITTER TENTS , THE TENT IS THE NOT A MONTANA CANVAS OUTFITTER TENT.

18'x23' & 16'x23' 10 oz or 12 oz tent with floor weighs more than 150 pounds which requires shipment by truck which is twice as expensive as UPS.

Sewn in tent floor: For canvas tents, white laminated vinyl for extra strength. I strongly recommend putting two doors on your tent when ordering a tent with a sewn in floor. Two doors will save you significant set up time for the tent and frame. And more importantly, the second door provides another escape exit in the event of a fire since you have your floor sewn in. Stake in floor has nylon stake loops. Relite tents with sewn in floors will have Relite floors. Floor stove area has a zipper for rollback for either vinyl or relite floors. State floor color when ordering floor- if color is not specified a tan floor will be shipped . Recommendation: I recommend the tan floor. A white floor shows dirt more than a tan floor.

ADJUSTABLE ANGLE KITS - Steel or Aluminum Models
Aluminum angles ship in 1 to 2 business days

  • Ship date is1 to 2 business days after order is received.
  • Adjustable aluminum angles come with two adjustments to fit Montana Outfitter or Blend tents.
    • If your tent has a different angle requirement you can drill a hole in the angle adjustment and insert locking pin.
    • Aluminum angles only have a 1" overlap with conduit on all horizontal frame poles and a 3" overlap with rafters. The 1" overlap on horizontal frame sections makes setting up the tent difficult. I recommend the steel adjustable angle.
  • Adjustable steel angles with wing nut.
    • Adjust angle and tighten wing nut to fit any tent.
    • Steel angles have a 3" overlap on horizontals and rafters.

OUTFITTER TENT - PORCH, COOK SHACK, FLY & STAKE IN FLOOR

OUTFITTER TENT- " SEWN IN" FLOORS

    • Porch: 10 feet long, fully enclosed with screen on front end. Relite or 10.1 oz canvas. 2 foot overlap with tent on sidewalls and roof. Grommets on bottom of porch for staking.
    • Cook Shack: 12 feet long, fully enclosed, stove jack included. Relite or 10.1 canvas. 2 foot overlap with tent on sidewalls and roof. Grommets on bottom of cook shack for staking.
    • Be sure to specify either Relite or canvas when ordering a porch or cook shack.
    • Tent Fly: Significantly helps repel rain and snow. 1 Foot overlap on each side of tent. Zipper opening for stove pipe. Indicate color when purchasing. A tan fly will be shipped if no color is specified. Does not include rope, tensioners or stakes.
    • Stake in Floor: Made of durable 13 oz white laminated vinyl. Banded edges provide additional strength and tough metal grommets offer a secure base for staking the tent floor to the ground. Floors have a 5' x 5' cutout for a stove. Blend tents have Relite floors - white or tan or a 13 oz laminated vinyl - customer preference. State relite color when ordering - if not specified a tan relite floor will be ordered. I strongly recommend a laminated vinyl as it is more durable than relite unless weight is a major consideration.

    • 1 3/8" round aluminum.
    • Snap/push buttons on ANGLES only to lock poles into place.
    • Easy set up.
    • Recommendation: Click wall tent steel frame prices for a cost comparison. Steel frames are approximately 25% less expensive than aluminum frames. Steel rafter frames do not droop under roof weight a much as aluminum frames. The only disadvantage of a steel frame is the weight. Steel frames are approximately one third heavier than aluminum frames. Aluminum frames are best if you plan packing your frame in on horses.

MONTANA WALL TENT ADJUSTABLE ALUMINUM ANGLE KIT

Click to enlarge adjustable angle joint picture

    • Next business day shipping.
    • Aluminum angles fit all outfitter tents
    • If you want an adjustable angle I recommend my adjustable steel angle kit with wing nuts. The steel adjustable horizontal angle has a 5" overlap with the horizontal frame poles vs a Montana Canvas aluminum angle overlap of only 1" on the horizontal frame poles. The Montana 1" overlap on horizontal frame poles makes setting up a tent frame much more difficult and takes longer. Additionally, there is no stop/tit in the middle of Montana Canvas horizontal angles. This poor design allows one horizontal pole to force the other horizontal pole completely out of the aluminum angle when setting up the frame. If you ever had to set up a tent frame with Montana Canvas aluminum angles at night it would be a nightmare! Hopefully you can understand why I do not recommend the Montana Canvas angle for all the problems it creates when setting up a tent frame during day or at night. The fixed steel angle kit is the strongest and most durable for all outfitter tents.
    • Recommendation: Click angle kit for fixed steel angle kit and steel adjustable kit cost comparison. The difference in cost for a fixed angle is about 25% less. I recommend a fixed steel angle kit.

ADDITIONAL MONTANA CANVAS OUTFITTER TENT INFO

Montana Wall Tents - window placement: Your windows will be located between the seams. Montana Canvas tent sidewall seams are every 5' on 10 oz canvas tents and every 4' on 12 oz canvas tents. You must also consider the location of your tent frame legs when you decide on window location. Personally, legs being in front of a window is not a concern to me. However, window location is always customer choice. You will have a tent frame leg in the center sidewall of the tent if you have 3, 5, or 7 rafter tents frames. Be specific when ordering a window location if you do not want a frame leg in front of a window. Montana Canvas Outfitter Tents, either 10 oz or 12 oz canvas, ordered with a back window will be slightly off center because there is a seam exactly in the middle of the back wall.

WARRANTY: All warranty replacement or repairs is the the responsibility of the Montana Wall Tent Company. All warranty problems must be coordinated with Montana Canvas Tent Company directly.

Ropes and tensioners: Montana Canvas Outfitter Tents 17' long and shorter come standard with 200' of nylon rope and tensioners. Montana Canvas Tents 20' and 23' long have 400' of nylon rope and tensioners. They guy ropes coming off the eave grommets to the ground should be cut about 8' to 10' long. The angle of the guy rope to the ground should be about 30º-35º. If you have difficulty visualizing 30º-35º, remember 45º is half of a sharp 90º angle.

Montana Canvas Outfitter Tents do not come standard with tent stakes: I prefer to use 5/8" rebar cut 3' long for my corner guy ropes and 2' long rebar for my non corner ropes. I like/recommend longer stakes than normal in order to better secure the tent during high winds. By having longer than necessary stakes you can use one stake for both the tent guy ropes and fly guy ropes thus reducing the total number of stakes required. Most lumber yards will cut your rebar free for your required rebar lengths. I like to have a 3" piece of rebar welded about 2" from the top forming a "T". Tie the fly guy ropes just below the top "T" of the rebar and the "T" prevents the fly guy rope from slipping off the top. For the tent eave ropes weld another 3" piece of rebar about 6-8 inches from the top of the rebar. Tie the tent eaves guy ropes to the lower "T".

Montana Canvas Outfitter Tent fly: Fly only made of relite. To prevent spark holes in the relite insure you have a good spark arrestor on your stove pipe or have a 4 Dog Stove. The 4 Dog stove has a baffle which prevents almost all sparks from going up the stove pipe. A 4 Dog stove, with baffle, and spark arrestor will help prevent sparks from burning pin holes in the relite fly or any type of fly for that matter.

Montana Canvas Outfitter Tent fly rope and tensioners do not come standard with your tent: You must order the fly rope and tensioners which are necessary to use your fly.

STORING OUTFITTER TENT FOR THE WINTER. YOU MUST INSURE YOUR OUTFITTER TENT IS TOTALLY DRY , INCLUDING GUY ROPES BEFORE STORING YOUR TENT. Regardless of what type of treatment you have on your tent, I guarantee you will have mildew and rot on your tent if you store the tent when it is damp or wet. If you can't set up a wet tent outside to dry properly, your only option is to hang the tent in a shop or garage. If you don't want to set up a frame, use a rope for a ridge pole and secure the guy ropes to something to pull the roof fairly tight. Leave the garage or shop open if possible to let the wind help dry the tent. Double check to insure your guy ropes are dry if you store them with the tent. Anywhere a wet guy rope touches the tent will cause the canvas to mildew and rot. If you are unfortunate and have mildew or rot on your tent, your tent will never be water resistant in the areas of rot/mildew unless you apply canvak to the dry rot/mildew areas after you clean the area with diluted bleach water. Only apply the bleach water blend to Outfitter Tents on the rotted area as the bleach concentrate will destroy the water/ mildew treatment on any area it is used. If you ever have rot or mold on the roof, I would just bite the bullet and buy a fly to insure your roof doesn't leak when you are hunting or camping.

Montana Wall Tent Relite Floors: Relite floors are thin and there is a high probability of floor puncture if the floor is on top of any sharp objects. It is recommended that you remove all objects that could puncture the floor in your tent set up location. If possible put a tarp under the relite floor to reduce relite floor punctures. I do not recommend the relite floor unless weight is the most important factor. The vinyl floor is much tougher and more durable making it less likely you will have a puncture in your floor.

Montana Canvas Outfitter Tent fly: The tent fly rests on the tent ridge. However, always have a space between the tent roof and the fly. This space allows air to move over the canvas to remove any moisture build up. Having a tent fly resting on the canvas roof significantly increases the probability for mildew accumulation because there is no way for moisture to evaporate.

Cook Shack Costs: The cost of a cook shack cost almost as much as an entire tent of the same size of the cook shack you want to purchase. Sometimes it makes more sense to buy another tent to use as a Cook shack and have the smaller tent to use when a larger tent is not needed.

Sewn in floor: I do not like sewn in floors in Montana Wall Tents due to the increased difficulty setting up a frame while you are inside the tent. However, under certain circumstances a sewn in floor is recommended:

    1. Snakes. Certain parts of the country have lots of snakes. The sewn in floor is one way to help keep a snake out of your tent.
    2. Mice. At night mice will come inside of your Outfitter Tent for food. I set 6 mouse traps at night to reduce the mouse problem. However if you are a light sleeper the mouse traps going off at night might wake up. Sewn in floor helps prevents mice coming in the Outfitter Tents.
    3. Wife or children that are very concerned about insects, snakes, mice etc.
    4. Setting up your tent for long periods of time.
